The fore end of this shotgun “repaired” by someone who lathered the damaged portion with copious amounts of Epoxy. So we completely stripped it of the epoxy and the original finish. After that we cleaned and reshaped the crack, then glued in matching pieces of wood and sanded them down to match the original shape of the fore end.

 Reinforced the crack from the inside of the fore end – this portion is covered by the fore end iron.

This is how it looks after staining and 4-5 coats of a hard wearing oil finish. Photographs taken before checkering was re-cut and final finish applied.
